Part fiction, part biopic, Tatsumi pays tribute to the legendary manga artist Yoshihiro Tatsumi, best known for his seminal autobiography ‘A Drifting Life’. The film charts his invention of ‘gekiga’, the graphic-novel form detailing the everyday lives of people in post war Japan, work that is both unflinching and poetic. A must for anyone interested in manga, anime, and Japanese culture, the fluid animation remains faithful to his much-loved drawing style.
In conjunction with the film, the ICA will also host a FREE mini-exhibition of never-seen-before materials, including concept art and new illustrations from Tatsumi himself, drawn exclusively for the film.
